Muy caliente – Day 6
Hot hot hot…..That pretty much sums up the day we had today! We started the day in our routine of a delicious breakfast and loading up in the van. We headed to the work-site and started back at our jobs. We did the second coat of paint on the beams, and finished some of the walls. They started to frame the windows and doors. We can see progress in the building and in our relationships. We are all connecting with the children, workers and kitchen ladies. Please keep your prayers coming about how we can leave a lasting impression of God’s love with those who might not know Him.
It was a very HOT day. We bought ice cream from a vendor who came past the church for everyone at the work site. We paid $7.00 for 27 fudge popsicles. It was a welcome treat! Vicky got to hold an Escorpion! One of the workers broke off its tail. The tail wiggled on its own. They said a new tail will grow back but it might be a different color than the rest of the critter.
We had about 60 children for the childrens’ ministry. The children sang songs using their egg shakers and danced. We did a three part skit about the disciples following Jesus. Then we presented the salvation message using colors. It was similar to the wordless book. The children then made caterpillars with little pom poms in the same colors as the lesson on salvation. We sent them off with a little paper that explained the colors! Please pray that those little caterpillars would touch those that might not know Him.
When we got back to the hotel we had a brief delay getting cleaned up because we didn’t have water for the showers. There is no hot water here. The water is stored in a large tank outside that does warm up a bit because it is so hot here!
We had a quick supper and then headed off to the market in Masaya for some sight seeing. There was a man there who made personalized maracas. We were all amazed at how talented he was. He carved pictures and our names into them.
Tomorrow we are headed back to the church for our last day of work. We will be saying goodbye to our Nicaraguan friends. Please pray for us. It will be difficult for us to say goodbye to these special people! Please also keep praying for our health and safety!
